Funny Rap Lyrics: 6 Tricks, 16 Original Duets

Why some rap lyrics are funny, the six tricks behind them, and 16 original funny rap duets about roommates, work, pets and takeout to copy.

Funny rap works because rap has a built-in joke structure. Every line ends on a rhyme, and the listener's ear leans toward that last word. If the last word is a surprise, the line lands. That is why a comedian can be funny in four short lines of rap and not in four lines of prose.

This guide covers six tricks that make lyrics funny, each with an original example, then gives you 16 funny duets about everyday life that you are free to adapt. In every example, 1: and 2: mark the two rappers, which is the format the Rap Duet generator uses.

Why funny rap lyrics work

Some well-known comic rap songs show the range: Lazy Sunday (Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell, 2005) turns cupcakes and a movie matinee into a boast, White & Nerdy ("Weird Al" Yankovic, 2006) parodies Chamillionaire's "Ridin'", Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros (Flight of the Conchords, 2007) plays rap clichés for laughs, and I'm on a Boat (The Lonely Island featuring T-Pain, 2009) is a swagger song about, well, being on a boat. None of them need quoting here. What they share is a serious delivery wrapped around a small, silly topic.

Six tricks, with examples

1. Wordplay

Use a word that means two things, or two phrases that sound alike.

1: I'm not late, I'm fashionably delayed by fate
2: Fashion left at seven, buddy, it's half past eight

The second rapper takes the first's excuse and uses its own rhyme word, "eight", against it.

2. Big boast, small stakes

Rap is full of bragging. Brag about something tiny.

1: I'm the boss of this kitchen, I've got skills, I've got flair
2: You set off the alarm making cereal, I was there

3. Exaggeration

Push a normal feeling past believable.

1: I'm so tired my alarm clock gave up on me
2: I'm so tired I said "good morning" to my TV

4. Self-roast

Laughing at yourself is safe, and listeners warm to it.

1: I bought a treadmill, now it's where I hang my coat
2: I bought a guitar and I mastered one whole note

5. The anticlimax

Promise something big, then deliver something small.

1: Brace yourself, I've got a secret from my past
2: I ate your leftovers, and they went down fast

6. Painfully specific detail

Specific beats general. Everyone has had this moment, and naming it feels like a shared joke.

1: Twelve tabs open and one of them is playing sound
2: Nobody knows which one, so we search all around

16 original funny rap duets

Each has four lines. Change the details to your own life, since the more personal the better.

How to make them funnier

Read each pair aloud. If you stumble, the line is too long, so cut it. Put the funniest word last. Keep one subject per verse, and keep the teasing about habits, not looks or anything the other person would not laugh at. A roast works when the target is in on it.

Turn them into a video

A joke in text is half a joke. A pair of people delivering it on camera is the whole thing.

  1. Draft the lines for free. The rap lyrics generator has a Funny style. Give it a topic, then edit what comes back, or paste one of the duets above and swap in your details.
  2. Make the video. In Rap Duet, add two photos (or one photo of both of you), pick a stage, choose the Funny song style and type your topic. Most videos are ready in about three minutes.
  3. Exact lyrics. On the monthly and yearly plans you can paste your own lines, 2 to 8 lines up to 400 characters in total, and they are sung word for word. On credits, the video uses your topic and writes fresh bars. Either way the song is original.

Use photos of adults who have agreed to appear, and say in the caption that the video is AI-generated.

Are the lyrics on this page free to use?

Yes. They are original, so copy them, change the details and use them in your own videos, captions or cards. Replace names and specifics with your own because personal details are what make them land.
